Comment: i have a intel pentium 4 1.5ghz, im guessin its a 478 socket, i want to upgrade, i think my only option without new motherboard is a celeron, im looking at the 2.8 ghz option, any who could give more information on upgrading, if i have to reformat, any usefull info would be gladly appreciated =)

Reply: (edit)It is in this case. Going from a Pentium 4 1.5ghz to a Celeron D 2.8ghz will overall improve your preformance. now if you are going from a Pentium 4 1.5ghz to just an old Celeron 2.8ghz, then don't even bother, because you will not see hardly any diff in preformance. With that said if you can jump to a Pentium 4 2.4ghz, then that would even be better then going to a Celeron D and a heck of a lot better then going to a Celeron. No you don't have to reformat your hard drive. Now if you were getting a new motherboard, then that would be a diff story. Reply: (edit)If you are going to use this pc for any type of future gaming then avoid budget processors like Celerons and Semprons. Those processors will do anything but game, unless you overclock the hell out of them and i'm talking serious overclocking like 600-800mhz faster then what the defualt speed is. Of course you would have to throw in some high dollar ram and a awesome cooling system, but by then you would be speed more on that then you would a maintstream processor.
