I have a Compaq presario 4550, and i'm planning to upgrade it. It is very slow and low end. What would be the compatible OS and processor for it?

Wow, that is an oldie. Have you updated anything over the years or is it still stock? Here's the specs:

It will run Win95 decently, Win98 or WinME will run OK with some tweaking. Anything else is pretty much out of the question unless you wanna try one of the low end Linux distros such as Damn Small Linux?

I am thinking to buy a new one. Is an AMD SEMPRON LE-1250 2.2 GHZ would be a good choice?

The SEMPRON LE-1250 is a very low end single core CPU. It's a HUGE step up from what you currently have but it's bottom of the line for what's currently available. What do you plan on using the PC for? I highly doubt it would be any good for games. What are the rest of the system specs?
