I think the Compaq Presario 6000 is a desktop machine.

Since your name is JGamer, I assume this upgrade is to improve gaming performance? What is it that you can't do with your 1.8GHz CPU? Is it a P4 or a Celeron? If it's a P4, increasing your RAM another 512MB might be more cost effective. What video card do you have?

ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

I just happen to have a Persario 6000 lying on a work bench with a Athlon XP 1800(1533mhz) and a Spare Athlon XP 2200 CPU(1800Mhz). I could swop them with out any problem or changing jumpers. Benchmarked to show a speed gain. This means you can upgrade the CPU to the fastest that uses that MB's bus speed 133mhz with DDR 266mhz. That should be an Athlon XP 2600+ ...er so 3Ghz is out of the question.
