howdy,
i want to upgrade a friends computer - he has a P2 233mhz processor. I was wondering if these motherboards can take P3's? I cant find the name of the motherboard.

Depends...if the mobo supports a 100/133MHz FSB, then you should be fine. Let me know the mobo model number and I'll go into more detail.
Computer nut since 1985 and still loving it...

Try Aida32 or Everest on that computer. Hopefully it tells you at least some things about the board! Otherwise look between or around the card slots for manufacturer and/or name. The name is probably just a group of numbers and letters and maybe very short!
Without knowing which board it is it's hard to tell. If it's one of the very early slot1 boards you may only run 66MHz FSB and the more modern cpu's (newer Pentium 2 or 3) run at 100MHz or the last even 133MHz.
The fastest 66MHz FSB cpu is a Celeron 766MHz but without knowing which board I'm not sure it would run either!
Summary: If there was a way to add cache to CPU's you would see a big improvement in system performance. Upgrading the CPU to an 1100 PIII won't be much faster than your 900 right now due to the 100 MHz bus sp...
Summary: Didn't you post a similar question yesterday? I believe the answer was to upgrade your RAM to 256mb, dump Win2k, replace it with Win98SE. Yu wanna upgrade your motherboard to what? Another socket 7 bo...
Summary: It's more difficult to find regular P4's w/256kb cache because there's not a lot of demand and I believe they stopped making them. I don't think there's much point in upgrading your CPU right now, yo...
