Subject: Upgrade (L2) CPU???OS: WinMeCPU/Ram: Celeron 900MHz/512MB |
Comment: Hello all... I am planning to upgrade my current CPU(Celeron 900/128/100/1.75) to a PIII 1100/256/100/1.75. By the way, my mobo is a Trigem Congac+. My question is, would I see some improvement with this upgrade? I'm not expecting a dramatic improvement but would another 128K L2 help? TIA. ¤estaik¤

Reply: (edit)If there was a way to add cache to CPU's you would see a big improvement in system performance. Upgrading the CPU to an 1100 PIII won't be much faster than your 900 right now due to the 100 MHz bus speed they both use. To get the biggest increase in performance see if your board supports 133 MHz FSB PIII's. One of these will seem about 20% faster than what you have, but for a 70% increase in speed you would need to go for a new motherboard and PIV 2.4 and some DDR RAM or perhaps a socket A board and an XP2400+.
