Subject: Upgrade from P3 450 to P3 800? |
Comment: I have a P3 450 MHz, slot 1 CPU and a Tabor II motherboard, bus speed 100 (my RAM is 100MHz too). I can get a cheap P3 800 MHz to upgrade my system but I'm not sure whether that has to be 100MHz bus speed or the 133MHz processor will work. Any ideas? Do you think that the upgrade will work, anyway? A brief guide on how to do that will be appreciated Thank you

Reply: (edit)Check the owners manual to see if it says it will support it or not. Your mobo may not be able to scale up that far. You may also need to flash that board's BIOS to the most recent version available from the manufacturer. If you don't have access to the manual, try getting the info from their website. Your mobo will also need to be able to provide a 1.65 or 1.70 volt core voltage. Your 450 MHz cpu uses 2.00 volts. The manual will tell you if your board supports a 133MHz front side bus or not. Also check to see what jumpers, if any, are on the board. The jumpers may provide some good clues.
