Hi, ive been feeling as if my computer is starting to fall behind in stats so i plan on upgrading either my ram or cpu. Currently i have a P4 1.8ghz(400 MHz)cpu with 512mb RDRAM. Should i upgrade the RAM to 1gig or the CPU to like a P4 2.4ghz (533MHz)

Better than P4 1.8A could easily run at 133FSB to get to 2.4Ghz with slight voltage increase. My 2A is running at 3.34 ghz using stock intel HSF. Been like this over months.

CPU for sure. Think about the overclocking idea.
Not always the best route, but definitely the cheapest if you have a capable cpu.

If you think your computer becomes slower you should think about a new installation. The longer a system runs the more waste accumulates and that makes the system slow.
Otherwise I agree with the cpu but real cools suggestion sounds good so try before wasting money on something you can get for free!!!

OK so to overclock my CPU what do I need to specifically change in the BIOS to do this and how far should I push it. Also I’ve heard that overclocking could cause overheating. I’ve got a dell Dimensions 8200 it’s got the one fan on the CPU and the one exhaust fan is that sufficient for possible temperature problems that arise with overclocking?

forget it!!!!!!!! it's a DELL, you can't overclock it.... try a fresh install of windows, back up important stuff, wipe that hard drive and start fresh...you should see a difference right away..
branded computers like DELL,compaq,HP,sony and others disable anything in the bios that allows you to overclock
