Subject: Upgrade CPU on ECS P4S5A HELP
OS: Windows XP Profession
CPU/Ram: P4 2.4/384
Comment:

I upgraded my P4 1.6 GHz to a P4 2.4 GHz on my ECS P4S5A Motherboard. I updated the Bios to Version 02/08/03 which is the latest and then set the BIOS to Load Optimal Settings. When the computer reboots it says 1.80 GHZ on the startup DOS screen. When I right click My Computer and look at the System Properties .. under Computer, it says Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz and underneath that is says 1.79 GHz, then under that states 384 MB of RAM.

From what i understand, I'm not running at the CPU's potential of 2.4 GHz. Is there something i need to change on the motherboard for the settings to reflect the new CPU? Is it something in the BIOS? Does the BIOS need replacing??

change fsb frequency jumper setting on motherboard, if possible.
if not, go into bios and change.

Set your FSB (CPU frequency) to 133MHz in BIOS.

I did this and now i'm running at 2.4 (2.39) GHz .. thanks ,... it was on the BIOS, on the CPU PnP Setup page ... changed settings from 100/100 to 133/133 and now it's up to speed ...

Now i'm having Serious Windows System Error messages ... mini crashes ,.. involving minidump ...

I'll post it on a new thread ...
