Upgrade cpu on a IBM R50E?

On A IBM R50E can you? up the size of the Pentiun-M? from a 1.5 or 1.6 to a Pentiun-M 2.0 if they both have the same FSB 400? will that work? has anyone did it? how much can you step up too? on the R50E IBM with out problems. if any one knows, let me know . John

Laptops are designed to vary the CPU speed based on load...this is done to conserve power & keep the temps down. So even if you were to swap out your 1.6GHz for a 2.0GHz, it would rarely run at that speed. You'd benefit more from a RAM upgrade than a CPU upgrade, especially if you only have 256MB.

The upgrade will work but as jam said the cpu runs at a slower speed unless needed so you will not notice very much improvement. I would check with ibm to see if the cooling requirements are the same also.
