Subject: Upgrade Celeron to a Pentium 4 OS: Windows XP CPU/Ram: Celeron 2.5GHz/512 Ram

Comment: I have Compaq s5000v Presario, FREE gift, that has a Celeron 2.5 GHz CPU. Current specs: Internal Clock:2491.91Mhz System Bus:398.71 System Clock:99.68MHz Multiplier:25.0 Can this processor be swapped out with a 2.4 or 2.5 GHz Pentium 4 with a FSB of 400MHz? My current Ram is DDR PC2100. Will this work with the Pentium 4 CPU?

Reply: (edit)Yes, it could be swapped, just make sure the upgrade or replacement is 400mhz. The 2.5Ghz 400 P4 is very hard to find and expensive, so is the P4 2.4 400. They cost almost the same as the 800mhz HT chip. I'm afraid you wouldn't notice much of a difference after spending close to $160 to $200. Your choice and decision.

Reply: (edit)Would the same Memory work? Shouldn't the Pentium 4 be faster processing data and playing games, faster frame rates? I am also going to be doing some video editing and thought the P4 would be a better choice. Just keep the Celeron?

Reply: (edit)Yes, you use the same memory PC2100. Video editing benefits from high processor speed which you Celeron is very sufficient, while games and certain apps benefit from high cache size such as the Pentium provides. While P4 Celeron is highly overclockable, and the performance shines over 3 ghz, your OEM board does not have the features.
