the technique you are referring to is for Thunderbirds (K7) not K6.

To paraphrase what mike said, AMD K6 II’s do not have locked multipliers.

aren't you lucky, I've just spent days reading up on unlocking the multipier of my duron 800 and it took me three tries to get it right after hours of work, next time I'll do it in 5 minutes, and there will be a next time, I have learnt so much going thru the exercise and I recomend anyone to have a go especially on older chips, BUT READ UP FIRST until you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing, follow the links and enjoy. -----

change the jumper settings on your supersocket 7 mobo to 5.5x and boot it up. no need to mess with the heat spreader..

Do use a good sized heat sink and a decent fan.

K6-2 500 running at 550 with stock v-core of 2.2v

Even with great cooling you may get to 550mhz if your lucky. You can buy a K6-2+ or a K6-III+ for about $30 on e-Bay, both will give a lot more performance boost.

Heck if your case will accept an ATX motherboard, just get a used one with a K-7 CPU and memory from e-Bay. Should be well under $100, and use your HDD, CD-ROM, etc.

You can lead a horticulture, but can you teach a prototype?
