Comment:

I would like to contribute my unused CPU time for cancer research, but I am concerned about the cost of doing this.

I know running the CPU and RAM at 100% capacity will use more electricity, so my power bill will go up. But I am more concerned about possible harm to my system.

Will running my CPU and RAM at 100% capacity for extended times shorten their lifespan? When 100% my CPU gets up to 66 degress Celsius, or 151F. Any chip experts out there?

Thanks jerry6,

I'll fix that temperature problem soon with a new fan. But I'd still like some insight to my question.

I know that there are some bad effects on electronics when they operate at higher temperatures, and 100% CPU utilization does increase the temperature.

But what could be level of the negative effects on power consumption, CPU and RAM? Anyone?

$20.00 a yaer maybe , and about the heat , i've had no trouble in over 2 years running ud , seti comps are made to run just not as hot as yours , heat is a killer . if you keep it cooler it should not be a problem . i have 1 comp thats been running 24/7 for 4 years , 2 years of seti and no breakdowns .
