Specs: Windows Vista, dual core 2gb ram
i have self assembeled system and have been using it for almost two and a half years.
from a few days back ive noticed that the fans noise is quite high. also the system just gets switched off <improper shut down message is recieved on the next booting.> or the system stops responding <no display, just the power led is on ,and no response to any of the buttons even the restart button.>
the same thing happens when it gets switched off so unexpectedly i cant switch it on unless i remove the power chord from the power supply and put it back again. i've also noticed that when this happens the cpu body gets really warm that u can actually feel the warmth radiating out. in some cases there was a small smell<must have felt>. what could the problem be is it overheating. my pc is kept at a room corner.
recently <just before the problem starterd i had kept the system on continuously for about 2 days could this be the reason?

THIS is a CPU. If it's overheating, it's probably because of dust buildup within the case, especially on the CPU heatsink/fan.

Unplug the power, open the case & blow the dust out with compressed air...do NOT use a vacuum.

Check your temp readings in the BIOS before & after the cleaning.
