Comment: 1)SoftFSB: is there any way to set it to open and apply the new clock settings immediatley upon entering Windows, because i cant find one, and if there is not is there some program that is like softfsb that will do that? 2)what is the best freeware CPU toasting program to check for overclocking stability? Reply: (edit)1. yup, autoexec.bat http://www.ocinside.de/html/workshop/3oc_Athlon.html 2. now I know that I provided you a link a LONG time ago when you asked about benchtesting programs....bookmark it this time! There are literally 100's of different useful prgrams on this site. Try TOAST, Prime95: http://www.benchmarkhq.ru/english.html?/be_cpu.html or try the new/improved Prime95 called Stress Prime 2004: http://sp2004.fre3.com/ ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

Reply: (edit)1) Without explaining what he needs to do with autoexec.bat, you didn't answer his question. Furthermore that's an outdated program for overclocking from within windows. Use Clockgen instead and it has instructions for how to make it start with Windows. Hint: It doesn't involve autoexec.bat 2) Use Prime95 and run it for a 24 hour cycle or until it finds errors. If you're looking for a quick bench test to check stability of an overclock you're doing in small increments, try CPU Stability 6.0 www.majorgeeks.com/download215.html

Reply: (edit)Clockgen allows you to change the FSB on the fly by simply moving a slider. Like any windows based overclocker, it's used primarily to test for stability before you set the clock speed in BIOS. It's also used by people who have proprietary mobos that don't allow such changes in bios. It's not permanent which is very important. If the oc is too high, it will lock up and a restart is required. Once the max stable oc is achieved, you can then make it permanent by making it startup with windows via a log file. But you MUST make certain it's stable before you do this, otherwise it's a real pain to undo. Hence why it's best to make the changes permanent in BIOS, because then you can simply clear the CMOS if it doesn't work. Clearing CMOS with clockgen will not work if you need to undo it.
