Hi All.

Can anyone tell me what the maximum upgrades are ( in terms of FSB, clock speed, processor speed, etc.) for a 500 MHZ AMD K6 II processor

Unless your motherboard allows for adjusting FSB beyond 100mhz, you can only change the multiplier to 5.5x or 6x in most cases( sometimes 2x works as 6x on some supersocket 7 boards).
Check your mobo manual for particulars of your 'board.

550 mhz should work with good cooling, 600mhz is iffy.

Optimizing your bios/cmos settings may yield a slightly quicker machine too.

I’m not overclocking this CPU but my experience with AMD K6 IIs over 300MHz is that they don’t seem to like overclocking much.

Here is what I found on one web site: MAX 1200MHz (right!) and Ave 564MHz:

Thanks Tinkerbong and Badboy.

My reading had always suggested that the highest speed the processor could attain was 550MHz. It's good s know that it can go higher. But I would imagine that these speeds depend upon the motherboard chipset as well, does it not?

Once again, thanks.
