Comment: i´v only recently purcased a new computer, and yes it was a mistake, not only for the discomfort of athlon but also for getting smoke in every direction, every time i overclock i must disconnect, i tried with arctic silver all over the processor as if that would make a difference but most of all, i put the case on the balcony where it belongs, not even swedish winter could cool this "son of a bitch" down, my xp2100 is currently running in 16 * 133 mhz, i also tried 17 * 133 mhz, what happens is that the motherf**er start to sound "stressed", so therefor i disconnect the fan chord, the sound annoyed me, but most of all the weird smell from the casevent, so this is the scenario every single time. The performance of this beast is under all critics

Reply: (edit)Why are you overclocking so high? The xp 2100+ speed is 1.73 Ghz (mult 13 X 133 1729Mhz) NOT 2128 or 2261 mhz!!! That's overclocking way too high. You're expecting to overclock 500mhz higher than default speeds. That is a pipe dream. Put the Multiplier back to 13 and fsb 133 (13*133)=1729Mhz If you're going to overclock you use fsb and multiplier overclocking if you can. Typically you drop your multiplier and raise your Fsb to get higher speeds. ie. xp2100 (13*133)=1729 lower mult and increase fsb of equiv (10.5*166)=1743 this oc'ing is best done with ddr400 but 2700 works well. From 10.5 you can slowly raise the fsb untill your memory it too overclocked. or just leave the fsb at 166 and raise the multiplier by X.5 intervals. But remember you should expect to overclock to extream speeds unless you have excelent cooling and a better understanding of how to. Look up tutorials on overclocking for more information.

Reply: (edit)hmmmmmmmmmm you are overclocking your CPU big time here. There are CPU out that runs at 17 * 133. Your CPU is only support to run at 1733 MHz (13 * 133!) sounds your like have a good stepping throughbred 2100 there, that's for sure. Are you trying to overclock it? If not the correct setting for the CPU I mentioned above, if you are the idea is to lower the multiplier and raise the FSB until the system becomes unstable, then add .25 volts to the vcore, always watching the temperatures and testing stability with prime or SETI or memtest86. Overclocking the FSB affects performance much more than raising the multiplier.

Reply: (edit)ok, the problem is that my multiplyer wont go lower than 13.0 if i for instance set it to 13,5 * 133 mhz, i get NO difference whatsoever in performance test 4.0, except my case increase the temperature by 4 degrees

Reply: (edit)"I tried with arctic silver all over the processor as if that would make a difference" Putting too much will give you the opposite effect..just put a little in the center.. something as big as match head should be enough with good paste
