Triple-channel RAM help boost up performance?

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, i7-930/4GB
Just wondering does triple-channel RAM boost up your PC performance?
Just notice that Intel release a 2nd generation i7 processors, but only support dual-channel memory controller. I just want to know if it's worth to switch from Nehalem to Sandy Bridge. They require different CPU socket right?

The new chip require socket 1155. Yes triple channel boost performance by increasing memory bandwidth. Socket 1366(core i7 9xx) will still be #1 then socket 1155 #2. U have good system(i see no reason to upgrade).
