ATI Radeon 9800XT is better than the new Nvidia FX5950 and Geil will soon produce the GT2 9800 PRO that will be better than the 9800XT. Search the net for benchmark before saying that the new Nvidia is better, cause it's not. It wins some test, but not enough to beat the ATI card.

Assuming you find a mobo that actually supports the new 800FSB P4's and rambus, from my knowledge, there is no such thing. RDRAM, like other superior products (3Dfx, Amiga etc. etc.) is dead. OT I know but I just thought I would say it.

well, maybe then you would swap it for DDR PC-3200. But as far as vid cards are concerned, your wrong. The 5950, if you did your homework, has higher clock speeds and higher performance than the 9800 XT. The 5900 may not be as good as the 9800 XT but the 5950 is... Depending on where you search, you will get different benchmark scores. Odds are you just went to ATI savy sites that dissed the 5950 really bad which made you think that the ATI is better. Check the big boys like Tom's Hardware, you'll see which one they prefer.

Hey Tony, i don't know what you're talking about, but at THG the 9800XT win the majority of the test.

"In the enthusiast segment, the FX 5950 makes a good impression. The trouble is, it is only slightly faster than the FX 5900 and tends to place behind the Radeon 9800 cards."

Just for your purpose, the 9800XT win in 8 games out of 10. Only Castle Wolfenstein seems to like the nvidia gpu more than the ati one. I did my "homework" as you said, it's not my fault if you can't read correctly.

Start with the Abit NF7-S v. 2.0 and a 2500+ with 2 256Mb pc3200 or better memory chips. Two identical serial ata hard drives are also a must with an ATI 9800pro or equivalent video card. For your peace of mind buy a nice case and name brand power supply of 400 watt or greater capacity.

If you send me 5 grand, I'll be happy to build a machine for you and warranty it for 5 years but unfortunately I can't return the change. Just choose your OS.

Basically an air conditioner for your CPU, like vapo chill, from what I have seen though, Prometia has a much better cooling capacity than Vapo Chill, according to Toms Hardware anyway.

I still think ATI Radeon 9800 XT is better than Geforce FX 5950 Ultra. Like I mention many times before. ATI cards attends to perform better at Direct 3D games. But when it comes down to Open GL, boom, it will lag behind. Nvidia is in a different situation here. When it's under Open GL games, it outperforms ATI cards, but Direct 3D sux. You know most of the games out there are now Direct 3D, there are only few games that support Open GL. Here is something you wanna look at, the GeiL GT2 Radeon 9800 XT. It's 15% faster than Radeon 9800 XT.

Im not sure what language this in, but still you can read the graph.

Yeah the vapo looked like it would compete with the prommy for a while there but I understand its a pain to maintain and gives temps about 10C higher, so the result is nventiv (maker of prometeia) has taken their prices from $600 to $1000 since they have a monopoly.

You can still build your own pelt + water cooler for like $250 though. A guy on here a while ago did that and look at his results - and this was with a tbred, vintage 1q03.
