OS: xp / mdk 9.2
CPU/Ram: athlon xp 2200 1.7 ghz /
Comment:

I seem to be having trouble with my cpu temp. When I just leave it sitting there hmonitor tells me it is 50-60c and when I do graphical operations it will jump up to 93 and stay there. Linux is highly unstable and I have a hunch it is heating although the acpi doesn't work well enough to test it. I have a radeon card and an athlon xp and this is a laptop so it is bound to be hot but I don't want to kill my cpu/hd/battery or whatever. Any things I should worry about? any solutions (I tried proping it up and it is sitting on a flat table.)

Although Im not a huge overclocker, Im quite sure that 93C is extreamly hot, I think the max. die temp is only 90C,

There have been several posts on this board as to cooling your system. The general rule seems to be to make sure you have proper airflow.

This can be done by haveing two input fans, at the frount of your case, and one exit at the back, also several people have expressed that in there exp. a side mounted fan is deteremental to proper air flow.

If you are reaching 93C with heavy graphics, then I wouldnt use any of those apps. untill my cooling problem is solved.

Also be sure to use a proper HS/FAN with a good thermal grease.

"and this is a laptop"

Re-group boys..^^^

Check to make sure no power saving is turned on in bios. Check to see the little fan is running...you should find a small air inlet and exhaust. See if air is flowing.

Check with the manufacturer to see if a bios update exists to address this problem or to see if this is common with your particular laptop. If it's really 93°C, it's waaay to hot.

There are two types of laptop if I made it too simple. Those use mobile processors and those use desktop processor.

You soon find out the price difference of the two, and which one runs hotter / longer in battery mode.

To reduce your heat problem, use your laptop on hard surface, and try using one of those triangle shape ruler to lift the rear end up for more air in between the laptop and the resting surface.
