I know the difference would be miniscule, but my MoBo is only rated to run a Athlon XP 2200+, but what would happen if I attempted to put in a XP 2400+? Would it run? They are both Thouroghbred cores, and .13 micron technology, but the only difference would be about 200MHz. What would happen if this were attempted? My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE.

There is only one stupid question, the question that is not asked.

Hey, i had the GA-7DXE and if i can remember correctly it was only rated to run a 2200+ two. I was running a 2200 in it at the time and it ran great, it was 133MHz x 13.5 = 1795MHz (XP2200+).

I think the problem you would face is that your motherboard may not support the higher multiplier of the 2400+??? If i am correct the 2400 runs 133MHz x 15 = 2GHz (2400+). Someone will correct me if i am wrong, but i think those two boards were pretty much the same.

says here you're good to the 266mhz fsb 2600+ with the fad bios release.

http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-7ZXE.htm

A kt133a chipset is unlikely to get over 145mhz (290 fsb)

Any board that runs the 2200+ will run a 2400+

Thanks for the help. The reason why I was asking was because of this document: http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/FileList/NewTech/tech_K7Thoroughbred.pdf. Thank god it is outdsted. The reason that I was asking is because the other night I ordered an XP 2400, but I did not check to see if it was supported until yesterday when I ran accross that document. Looks like I will be able to run it after all.

According to Gigabyte it depends upon the version of motherboard you have. The highest CPU for the two version is:

Model: GA-7ZXE (Rev 1.x/2.0
PCB: 1.x/2.0
AthlonXP 2100+ (Palomino) FSB: 266

Model: GA-7ZXE
PCB: 2.1
AthlonXP 2600+ (Thoroughbred) FSB: 266

I put in the new processor, and everything seems to run OK. It is actually faster than my old processor by far. Of course it may have to do with the fact that I am now running at 133Mhz, and before I was only running at 100Mhz in the FSB.
