Hi, well i bought a Thermaltake volcano 9 smart and silent HSF. I installed it into my computer with only minimal booting equipment (M/B, PSU, Video card) I turned on the system and went into the BIOS and it read 57C! My original AMD stock cooling kept it at (full load) 53C. But this is at idle and in the BIOS.

I don't know if i put the thermal grease on wrong or what, but i bought this so i could overclock better.

Please help with my situation.

Dabiel

PS I am only using the thermal grease that camne with the HSF and i didn't get any Artic silver III or anything. Thanks for your time

No, i am sure that it is on the right way, it can only go on way. If i try to put it on the other way around, it will hit the capacitors.

I tried to putting a new lot of thermal grease on but i still get very high temps, i'm now hitting 70C in windows.

Yeah, i have to agree that the volcano 9 is not great. I have one too with artic silver 3 on my Athlon 2000+ (palomino) and i get temps of 54C idle in windows and over 65C playing games.
