There is no ULTIMATE setup, and if so, it will only be so for a month or 2.

But if I were to choose, I'd buy an XP2200, a KT333 based Gigabyte GA-7VRXP, OCZ PC3000, Leadtek A250 GeForce 4 Ti4600, SB Audigy Platinum...the list can go on....

if i were building another ultimate AMD PC id do what i just did all over again....
but remember that it all boils down to whether you are a gamer, or a server, or a media editor. heres 2 options for almost everything first one listed is my preference

MSI Dual MP mobo or Tyan Thunder Dual MP
two athlon MP 2000+
Adaptec UW 80pin SCSI RAID ata 166
1024 MB pc2100 DDR or find a mobo that is dual and supports ddr 333
3dlabs Wildcat II or nVidia Geforce 4 MX 4600
Vantec Fans CPU or Thermaltake fans CPU or use a waterblock
Koolance Watercooled case
ata 133 round cables for non scsi drives
scsi round cables for adaptec connected drives
4 scsi ( barricuda ) drives in two striped sets for drives C& D
remeber that with 4 scsi drives in a case no matter what your cpu cooing option is you need really good airflow SCSI drives are hotter because they run at much higher rpm
enermax 550w power supply (it has an intake and an exhauset fan)
generic 10/100 nic or a serverworks nic
cdrom + RW
dvdrom + RW
floppy/zip combo drive made by iomega

yeah, everyone's ultimate pc differs. It depends on what you plan to use it for. My pc is overkill...it has so much power for the things i do that it idles most of the time :P I only surf the web and chat. I don't even do e-mail anymore :P I originally designed my system to be a server (and occasional gaming system)
