The fan keeps coming on when I sign into Hotm

March 1, 2011 at 03:58:29
Specs: Windows XP
Whenever I sign into my windows hotmail account the fan on the cpu starts up. This has nothing to do with temperature as it can happen at the start of day - on start-up. Yet if I come out of hotmail (& windows explorer) the fan ceases and I can listen to music, or run other applications (google, etc) quite happily without the fan starting up again.
This must (?) be some software issue, rather than a hardware fault - surely ???

Any help would be very much appreciated; why do they make cpu fans so noisy ???

Try to sign in using a different browser or other client application. If the current app is using too much cpu for one reason or the other, the computer could be auto-adjusting the fan speed. Just try another program for hotmail and see what happens.
