Subject: The fad of OCing AMD 2500+
OS: Windows XP Professional
CPU/Ram: AMD 2500+ 512Mb DDR333
Comment:

I want to join the party!

I have an AMD 2500+
512Mb DDR333 PC2700
Asus A7N8X-X

It looks like so many people are overclocking these 2500+ babies to 3200+

What I want to know is what settings they use in bios for everything... ie. memory settings and CPU settings (that includes voltage settings)

What tends to happen when I overclock to 3200+ is my 'read' memory is lower. When run @ 2500+ read memory is 2521 MB/s
@ 3200+ read memory is 2232 MB/s

However my write memory improves when overclocked.. from 843 MB/s to 933 MB/s

My goal is to overclock, while retaining the 'read' memory. M hoping some clever person/s will help me out. Don't tell me about cooling though, im right for cooling

Sorry! Invites Only..;~(

Get some PC3200 memory, so you have synchronous CPU/RAM speed @ 400FSB.

What kind brand of PC3200 do you suggest, and is it better to get dual-pack. Corsair, Geil, Mushkin, Kingston, they all have low timings and same speed, but which is the better brand?

IMHO all of the above are top brands, I would go with anyone of them with the lowest pricing. BTW I have been hearing some good stuff about Geil lately.

You do not need dual channel with Athlon XP's, it is of no use, you will be held back by the CPU's bandwidth.

I don't understand saber... are you saying that dual channel ram is to fast for any of the athlon xp chips?.. so it wouldn't make a difference?

That would be just perfect B cos cpu fsb and ram will be syncronice :)

Goldenknob,

Let's say he gets two PC3200 RAM to run in dual channel mode (6400mb/s), still he will be limited to the 3200+ CPU's bandwidth of 3200mb/s since your memory bandwidth will not exceed the CPU's.

its useless. I can't OC my DDR333 to 400.

Perhaps i would have been able to do it with 'brand name' ram?

so I'm confused... why do they sell the ram for dual channeling... if it is of no bonus?.. just to make sales?
