Subject: The demise of Athlon 64 on the AM2OS: Windows XP ProCPU/Ram: AMN Athlon X2 4200+/2gbManufacturer/Model: Custom |
Comment: According to the AM2 roadmap, It looks like the only single core AMD Athlon 64 that will be made on the AM2 socket will be the AMD Athlon 64 3500+. Every other AMD Athlon 64 on the AM2 socket will be dual core. This makes sense to fase out the single core mainstream processors and just have the budget Sempron processors get the Athlon 64 single core technology in the future instead. http://vr-zone.com/index.php?i=3247 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200 Nvidia 6800GT SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

Reply: (edit)I also noticed that the Sempron 64's are still going to lack 512k L2 cache on the AM2 platforum. This should be interesting to see how they will match the preformance of the new Celerons with 512k L2 cache coming out soon.
