Temperatures really high

I overclocked my q9650 to 4.05 Ghz with a gigabyte ep45 mobo
cpu vcore 3.125 volts
mch core 1.2 volts
When idle temps are below 40 Celsius
when running the dark knight in bluray on vlc player temps are 45 +
When i ran prime 95 the temps when to 90 and stayed idle for a few minutes and then the pc shut down (that happened twice)
Did i do something wrong or what?

it sounds like its running way to hot.
i read somewhere that you want to keep the temp below 60 Celsius.
they said that if you go over 60 you will shorten the life of the processor.

i would decrease the overclock or install more fans......
