Subject: T-bred 2400+ or barton 2500+OS: windows xpCPU/Ram: amd2400 / 512 ddr400 cors |
Comment: just wanted to know which one of these cpu do all u over clockers prefer - im asking as i have (and know) that the 2400 t-bred is unlocked so allows easier overclocking... and the barton is multiplier locked - but is a newer CPU with a higher natural FSB... like i said i have the amd2400+ and was thinking of upgrading to barton 2500+...any advice? so let the comments and preferences between the two cpus flood in...let me see where i stand

Reply: (edit)Why not just get a 1700+ and overclock that. Its pretty much a 2400+ with a lower clock speed. If id be u id compare 2600+ tberd with 2500+ barton. But im not sure if u can still find the 2600+ tberd 333mhz fsb. If its still possible id pick it over 2500+ because it scales much higher. Otherwise get the 2500+ if u want 3200+ barton performance. But just a word of advice a 3000+ barton was in many benchmarks beaten by 2800+ tberd because of tberds superior mhz. And though a increase in fsb gives a bigger boost in performance then from increasing the multiplier, the difference is marginal.

Reply: (edit)note my mistake, i didn't notice that you already had the 2400+. Just keep it and overclock it. if u get it to run at 2.2ghz with around a 300fsb your performance should be just a little shy of a real 3200+ barton. Maybe 5% less at most i guess.

Reply: (edit)I have a 2400+ t-bred and no the CPU multiplier is not unlocked. If you got a CPU where you can actually change the multiplier you are lucky. I have to actually phisically unlock mine using either the pencil technique or buying some patches off the internet and eith way I don't want to screw with my precious processor. BTW Here are my system temps at full load 37 degrees celcius for CPU 24 degrees celcius for case Pretty nice huh.
