well i am trying to fix a friend's computer. they said one day the screen just went blank and it stopped working. when i got it, i plugged it in and as soon as i plugged the power cable into the power supply i heard a faint buzzing sound. so i figured it was a bad power supply. i swapped it out with a new one and now there is no buzz when i plug it in.

now it buzzes when i push the power switch and it wont boot up. no fans spin, nothing moves, i just get a buzzing noise. i tried taking out everything except the HDD, Floppy, video and memory. still no results. i even tried taking out the memory.

i just cant get this thign to boot.

please help

Sometimes when the power supply goes out it takes the mother board with it. Thats because they will spike sometimes which can take out the chips on the board or the cpu itself. If it's an older pc I'd just get a new one or build one in that case. Find out if they have a good surge protector. If it's a cheap one a surge might have done it. Anyone reading this, I can't stress it more to pay a little extra and get a good surge protector. It's like insurance without monthly payments. Issac

Buy Parts Cheap! Try old parts on working mb.
Try new parts on old mb.

Got to sysopt.com for a jumper test on your power supply!!! You manually jumpstart your power supply fan and if it doesn't work, adios amigo!
