Asus P5A-B w/ AMD K6-2 400MHZ

My processor is all of a sudden running at 200MHZ.Here's a screenshot of what's goin on....

http://www.geocities.com/chaibot/cpuinfo.jpg

I checked all jumpers for shorts, but all is fine.I do remember I reset my bios settings to default by accident, but don't remember if the problem occured right after I did that. There is also no option to adjust bus frequency, clock frequency,or multipler in my bios.Any important bios settings to look at?Any help I'd appreciate.

Is there a jumper for bus frequency? If so, try 100MHz.

Follow this link, download the manual for your motherboard and you should be set and have fun setting your jumpers.

All the jumpers are set correctly to run at 400MHZ.That's my problem.Bus frequency jumper IS set at 100MHZ.It was running at 400 b4,but all of a sudden its at 200 with NO jumper settings changed.

On P.43 of the manual, they mention CPU Internal and External Cache settings in BIOS.

How are these currently configured?

“Subject: AMD K6-2 400MHZ running at 200MHZ” was your previous post on this.

I just reviewed that thread and this one and I’ve been over your MOBO manual a couple times.

I wonder if something happened to your MOBO, CPU, or memory. I’d swap memory first. Next, I’d try swapping the CPU. I bet you could borrow one or find one cheap. I’ve got one sitting on my desk as I write this. I was going to swap it for a 300MHz K6 II in my work computer but I got a laptop instead. That was a pretty popular MOBO and I bet you could find one of those cheap as well.

I’m sorry I can’t be more help.

Could it possibly be the CMOS battery?

On page 10 of the manual, Under the Heading,CPU Slow Down, the motherboard has a feature where it slows down your cpu to stop it from ovrheating. It goes on to say cpu speed will return to normal once the overheating dissipate. Check your cpu fan to make sure it is dissipating the heat sufficiently. Also try using a different cpu/heatsink fan.
If that seems okay, check your jumper settings again. Ifs that okay, try setting your cpu to a different speed 333,
350,if you can set it to those speed than, you should be able to set it to 400
(setting it at 100mhz or slower should affect
the speed)
From reading the manual, you shouldn't worry about any settings in CMOS (at least that deals with cpu speed.) If it still doesn't work, contact ASUS
email helpdesk, too see if they had similiar problems with their other motherboard.
