My system is freezing when i try to play any games. At first i thought cpu was overheating, but i put on a volcano 6 and now the cpu temp is 57C max. System is stable under normal operation, and i couldnt get it to crash with sandra benchmarks. i am starting to think it is my video card. please help.

Just curious...what temps did you have before you installed the Volcano? Did you make any other changes besides that?

I had the standard AMD HSF. I was getting temps of 60C idle, going up to almost 70C. I never made any other changes..
I tried with a new stick of ram, as well as a geforce 3 video card, and still the same problem. i noticed my vid, sound, and lan are sharing the same irq. i think that may be the problem but i dont know how to change the irqs.

I have a similar problem with my 1800+ only I can't even boot into windows! Now I have it running on a 100mhz fsb, meaning it's only operating at 1.16Ghz. I only have a really basic Cooler Master HSF so that could be the problem, but besides that everything works fine.

If someone could figure out how to fix these new AMD chips, that would be great.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with those AMD chips. It's your cooling that's umh, lousy - for lack of better words.

Most people on this forum have little to no problems, and many of them even OVERclock their chips without any problems. But proper cooling, regardless which chip you use, is always the #1 concern for stability!

Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

300W power supply. CPU temp is never above 57C, which seems like a stable temperature to me. It crashed once or twice when i wasn't playing a game, but it always crashes when playing games.
I have a few devices on the same irq, but i disabled them and still had the same problem.
I don't think it's a cooling issue. Please help

I think it is cooling problem. When my pc temperature is 57, it stuck and when about 53, everything seems work ok. Try to give some air to your pc. Put a fan near to it, or take out from the computer table. if it makes a difference, than buy another fan. I believe this is temperature problem. When my pc's temerature is low, lower than 53 around 47, it works good.

Check this fan and this site is good for computer shopping. This what i am planning to buy.

I have an Athlon XP 1800+ overclocked to a 1.74Ghz (XP 2100+) with one fan at the bottom and one fan at the top of the case and a Dr. Extreme CPU fan. At full load while playing a graphical game (Morrowind) I stay around 50 C. .. Idle is 47 C. With case closed. If you can stand the hair dryer noise, I highly recommend the Dr. Extreme CPU fan! Before the fan I was a steady 65 C. at Idle Temp.

I have the same problem, with my asus a7m266 with asus 7700 gts deluxe display card, it always freezes during gaming session, this is nothing to do with your amd chipset or your cpu heat. The heat between 48 to 57 degree are normal for me.

My probelem flew away right after I've update my mobo bios from asus website and for my advice don't use the asus display driver. go to www.nvidia.com site and download the new driver.

Uninstall the asus display driver and replace it with the nvidia detenator driver and your nightmare will flew away too.

I had a freeze system when using the 5400rpm CPU fan on 1800XP because temp too high at >65 but when I replace it to 7200rpm Cooler master fan it cool down to 40temp and 48temp during active gaming.
So guys always go for 7200rpm CPU fan, every heat problems will be resolved.
Bingo!
