I have a Packard Bell legend 70cd. I want to overclock the system bus from 50mhz to whatever it goes to. It has a PB540 motherboard. Its a 75mhz processor. I think I'll get a spectra 400. Will that help? How do I do it?

Search for freeware programs cpufsb, setfsb, softfsb, and speedfan and hope one of them works for you. Odds are low that they will for that board.

Look in your bios for the field that allows you to change the cpu frequency. Odds are low that there is one, I'm afraid.

If you end up spending money, don't get a spectra 400, buy an athlon xp 1700+ barebones kit for under $100 delivered to your door, per www.pricewatch.com Just move over over your hard drive, cd-drive and floppy drive, run the motherboard install cd and you're set. Its a cheap motherboard but still a move up.

You will need to buy new memory too.

There might also be a jumper on the motherboard that swtiches you from one bus speed to the next.
