Comment:

I was wondering if it would be a safe/good idea to swap a Gateway E-3200 500mhz processor into a Dell Dimension XPS t450, 450mhz system. I haven't much idea about swapping out processors. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Shane

Ya,
Only a 50mhz difference, I just wanted to see if it can be done safely, I might have some cpus at my house that are like 850mhz or more. I am just seeing it all the processor ports are pretty much standard or not.

if the 2 computers have the same cpu socket interface, then yes it would be a simple swap...there's always the manual and google search on the net

I own 3 dell's. a 450, 1ghz, and a 2.53
and i've been interested in overclocking them, but the CMOS that comes with them won't allow anything like that (doesnt even show the multiplier). So to answer your question...nope.
