Subject: Still Need Help!!!!!!!!!!!!OS: XPCPU/Ram: AthlonXP 2100 |
Comment: I cleared my cmos and tried to start it up. The keyboard lights came on, but this weird thing happened. There was a long beep and then silence. Then another and then another. There was no video display. I fliped the switch on my powersupply to turn it off. I flipped the switch on again and my computer turned on all by itself. I didn't press the power button, I just fliped the switch on the back of my powersupply. What is going on, please help. Before, I burned out my O/Ced CPU and bought a new one. I put it in my motherborad and cleared CMOS. My mobo is a Shuttle ak31. My cpu is a Athlon XP 2100+. All that it does is makes long beeps. I dont know what to do. Do i have to buy another Motherboard Before i didnt put the cpu heatsink on right. I think that i will need a new mobo. What are the beeps for though? help!!!!!!!!!! There used to be a little light on my mobo, but now there isn't. I pulled out my ram and video card and it still beeps. I tried it with only one ram in the slot, but no luck. What can I do. I pulled out all the cable to the harddrive(the ATA cable and power cable) and the harddrive light on the front of my case is constantly on. Do i need to buy a new mobo. Please help.

Reply: (edit)the beeps are error messages u have to figure out what the long beep means by looking in your manual. Thats bout all I can get from the story. Not sure if frying your cpu would damage the motherboard.

Reply: (edit)G'day, It would appear to be a hardware problem. What is the BIOS manufacturer?? ie AWARD or AMI (if you don't know look for an IC on the mobo with a sticker on it ). Then you must get as acurate a description of the beep code that you can (ie beep duration and time between beeps). You can then cross reference this data with the BIOS manufacturer. If you have problems with this post back with the details; there are many knowledgable people on this board that can help. You might also like to post this on the General Hardware forum. Good luck, Elric
