Comment: I'm running an AMD XP2000+ and Soyo Dragon Mobo, sometimes when I turn on my computer it would make one beep followed by one really long beep then turn off automatically. What I can't figure out is why it starts up sometimes and not all the time. Has anyone else come across a similiar problem? I'm thinking the power supply may be defective. Any advice?

Reply: (edit)It's all to do with POST (start-up) Beep Codes. I used to have a list of what they meant, but don't know where it is now. Perhaps a search of the web would provide you with the answer. The sequence & type of beeps gives a clue as to the fault, & have been in use (hopefully with the same meanings) since the early days of the PC.

Reply: (edit)Short beep, long beep... hmm... making me rack my brain. That means no video card / bad video card if I'm remembering correctly. If not that then it means bad / no RAM. Jason

Reply: (edit)check make sure your cards are all in nice and tight... especially video card... usually any long beep means it has to do with the video card! If its not loose borrow someone elses video card and see if that fixes the problem. If it does you know it needs to be replaced.
