What heatsink does he have? If it's the stock one, none of the aftermarket fans will fit in there. If he has a better heatsink, an 80mm fan such as Thermaltake smart fan will do. Or maybe you can get him a better heatsink with fan instead of just the fan only.

No idea what you are talking about Shawn regarding "none of the aftermarket fans will fit in there".
Sometimes ... you don't own it, or don't know by experience ... better don't tell.
There are MANY aftermarket/3rd party heatsink will fit P4. Examples are SLK800U, Kamakaze, Sunflower AVC just to name a few. Afterall, P4 has very good Stock Heatsink Fan, dislike the early AMD's.
The new heatsink from Intel (3.0ghz above)with copper base would handle 90% of overclocking. None of my P4's (6 of them) overclocked above 30% minimum (67% highest) use anything but stock HSF.

Oh sh_t, sorry Shawn....
Shawn is correct.... you cannot just change the fan......as Intel has proprietary fan mounting with the heatsink.
Again, Shawn, sorry.

No problem, real_cool. I actually own an P4 and thinking of getting another one. But on the other hand, you maybe right. If you can find a way to mount the fan using a homemade bracket or a other method, some fans can be used with the stock heatsink.

With an 80 mm booster fan, it gets all my systems a few degrees lower.
