Comment:

I'd like to speed up my system in first person shooter games.

I'm running an ASUS A7N8X mobo and Nvidia GeForce4 MX440 AGP video card w/64MB mem on board. System resources and available memory are around 80% after start up.

The tech who set the system up recommended Bios settings of:

CPU ext freq at 133MHz
CPU multiplier at Auto
Memory freq at auto and optimum settings
FSB Spread spectrum at .50%
AGP Spread Spectrum at .50%
AGP Freq at Auto

Anyone got some goodd pointers for me to bump up the speed... little by little.

I want to take care with temps and life cycle, so I'm asking for resonable advice, OK?
Thanx,
shboom

Keep the drive defragged and run your game CD's from virtual disks on the hard drive.

Try Daemon-CD, cuz its free and it works!

Keep your 4-in-1 chipset drivers updated and use a chipset cooler if you need one..

Always use the most recent Direct-X drivers and Video Drivers..

just by looking at your info, you're already overclocked...
what cpu do you have overclocked to 1700 mhz?
what is the speed of your memory?

Thanx 808 & Third Point for your feedback.

About overclocking now, no I don't think so, but I'm n00b.

I have an Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1700 thats running around 1400MHz. I understand its a
Type A (1.5v core) unlocked and can be overclocked without problems if kept cool. My temps never seem to exceed 84 degrees F on the mobo or CPU with the existing standard cooling set up.

My memory is PC32000 DDR- 400MHz capable. Don't know the the exact mfr of memory chips, probably generic low priced modules.

The Bios post screen says its running in dual channel mode. Not sure what that means...

I don't understand the ins and outs of memory vs CPU configuration for best performance.

Sorry if I seem to be asking too much, too n00b for words. Its a learning curve I'm on.

Thanx, shboom
