As I stated in my last post, I am upgrading to a new Gigabyte MOBO, an AMD Barton 2500+ and 2 256meg sticks of Corsair 400MHz memory. My MOBO will support 8X AGP, but I am out of cash and will have to use my MSI GeForce 2 Ti w/ 64 Megs DDR. Will this card run at 8X? I looked all over the box and could not find any reference to it being an 8X AGP card, but it is the Pro, and the new ones say the Pro is 8X. Can anyone confirm this, or is 4X AGP even going to hurt new speeds and or any OC?

I had no idea that they still made GeForce 2's. you said it was a new one but I haven't seen a new one in a long time. I don't think that they run at 8x because 8x technology is fairly new but GeForce 2's at best were always 4x... even GeFroce 3's were not capable of 8x speeds.

It isn't like 4x is bad or anything, but you would probably want to upgrade to a nice new FX card asap

A GeForce2 is definately AGP x4 using AGP 2.0 standard !!!
But according to AGP 3.0 (AGP 8x) standard a AGP 2.0 card has to work (one standard higher/lower works)!

How far it goes with OC you have to test for yourself!

COMPUSA still sells the Geforce 2 MX 420. LOL.

$50!!!

Anyway, I think the new graphics cards have to meet the 0.8, 1.5v thingy.

I would get a new one anyway, with that setup!

As long as the GF2 card meets the 1.5 V 4x requirements it will work with no prob.

Wont be the lightning fast like the current 8X cards but it will do the job till you get some $ for a new one.

You didnt say which GGB mobo you have , most of them cary a anty burn device which will prevent sustem start up if the card is 3.3 V, that way uou cant burn out your MOBO, a small LED next to the agp slot will light up, if thew card is incorrect.

I had a GF 2 MX400 in my agp 4x slot for a while, also.

Regards

Janos

Yeah, I saw them at Comp USA too! lol. Well, I am saving a few hundred by going witht the Barton 2500+, instead of the 3200+, so I guess I need to look into the new FX series of cards. Damnit! I was hoping to get the new Sony MP3 / CD head unit for my car sometime soon, but I would rather brag on my PC as usual. Of course, I have no friends anymore because of all the time spent on my PC, so you guys are all I have to brag to, and most of you have better systems. Man, I suck...

Thanks again guys.
