Subject: SoundMax problem after overclockingOS: WinXP sp2 proCPU/Ram: ff |
Comment: When I set the bios overclock option to 20% (max is 30% and the motherboard can support up to 3.6GHz) windows does not detect the SoundMax codec anymore and this is the only problem I get. (the CPU frquence is 3.35GHz now)
Then if I set the overclock to 10% windows now detects it. Can this be figured out or is just a limitation of the soundmax audio codec. Some of my pc info: AsusP4P800s-X Intel P4 2.8GHz Sound Max AD1888 6-channel audio codec GeForce FX5200 (with the latest updates for bios, video and sound from asus website) Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Look for an option in the BIOS to lock the AGP speed at 66MHz...this will also lock the PCI speed at 33MHz. At a 20% overclock (w/o the lock), the PCI bus is running at approx 40MHz & that is too far outta spec for your PCI & IDE devices, video card, & onboard devices ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Reply: (edit)Tnx Well I can lock the AGP/PCI speed at 66.6/33.3 but through the manual overclocking option and I dont want to manually adjust other settings, so can`t use the overclock 20% option with AGP/PCI lock. I will keep running with the overclock 10%, unless a software that can lock the AGP/PCI speed exist and I don`t know any. Have a nice week!
