CPU/Ram: p4 2.4GHz, 384RAM

hey, i'm not a fan of overclocking, cause some months ago i screwed up my hd (i think it was because of that)... but, i have a question... while overclocking, after 2700mhz, my sound card stop working... why??

When you increase the FSB, you also invertantly rise the PCI and AGP bus speeds, which should be locked at 33mhz/66mhz when u OC. PCI is the motherboard's audio and harddrive controller (responsible for DATA transfer) and AGP is the motherboard's video(graphics) controller. So if 33/66 go higher then a certain limit then what u experienced starts to occur.

We only buy hardware so we can run software on it.

ohh i see.......

yeah, so there is no way solving this?? i really don't think that you can increase the fsb whitout affecting the agp or pci...

Some motherboards allow the locking of the PCI/AGP speed...some don't. As Quantum-1 said, the default speeds are 33/66mhz. Generally, 38mhz is considered the safe max for the PCI bus...AGP would be twice that, or 76mhz.

Check your BIOS settings to see if you're missing the adjustment. There's also the possibilty of a "divider" setting, or a "ratio" setting
