Subject: Someone help with thermal paste prob P4
Comment:

I finished building my system a few weeks ago (P4 1.8A) abit board. Anyway, i bought some antec silver thermal paste 99% micronized silver, and my idle temps are around 45C with case temps at 30C to 32C. CPU is not overclocked at these temps. I have read several reviews that rate the p4 1.8A to idle temp at like 35C when case temps are 30C. When installing, i removed thermal pad that came with heatsink, smoothed it out with goof off, and applied a thin layer to the CPU die spreading it around with with my finger wrapped in Syranwrap. Might i still be using too much? I cant see why else my temps would be so high. Heatsink is firm against board. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like you did it right to me. Is the fan on your heatsink rotating at it's specified speed?

yea, the fan is spinning at it's specified speed. Is it possible that the MB is not detecting the heat accuratly?
