Hi. This may sound like a very stupid question, but I’m afraid I’m new to overclocking! I recently overclocked an AMD 166MMX socket 7 CPU to run as a 233MMX unit. It works perfectly sometimes, but quite often I have to start Windows 98 in safe mode. However even running in safe mode there are no problems and it can run for hours. I have overclocked it to use a multiplier of 3.0, and voltage of 3.2v. This may sound like a high voltage, but the standard was running at 2.9v!
So in conclusion is there any way to stop Windows from entering safe mode? Could it be the HDD, RAM or CPU causing the problems?
Thanks,
Owen

yes reintall windows over the other one , no format or erasing.

are you on top for the FSB some P1 could go to 100 mhz EXP:if you are at 66 mhz by clock x3 and your board can go to ,lets say 85 mhz well lower the clock (if not working) to x2.5 or x2 & even x1.5 and put your board at 85 mhz i'll be faster cuz when you put the board faster everything on your board will work faster memory's , pci ,etc...

hope that helps you.

The factory voltage for a p166mmx is 2.8v...so you're seriously overvolting if you're running at 3.2v. You said your multiplier is set at 3.0x, but if you're FSB is 66mhz, you need a 3.5x multiplier to hit 233mhz. Try the multiplier at 1.5x & the voltage at 2.8v or 2.9v & see what happens.
