Comment: Hey i got a 2500 barton and a slk-800 comin' from new egg soon and i still need a fan to go on top of my heatsink. I cant remember the fan everyone raves about that makes the combo of the slk-800 and is ULTRA quiet. Was it stealth or something...what is the exact name? Also is there any other fan that may be just as quiet but better in performance? Thanks Josh

Reply: (edit)Do you mean the Vantec Stealth fan series? There great but really dont move much air, but their quiet - like you asked for, and great if you plan on never OC'ing your chip. But IF you do feel like OC'ing, then nothing better than the Vantec Tornado 80mm - this bad boy moves about 84 CFM's and coupled with your nice new H-sink will keep it nice and cool. J^

Reply: (edit)fans make claims, but airflow and noise go together. Your best bet may be the thermaltake smartfan II which is adjustable from silent to screamer. The vantec stealth is among 5 or 6 low airflow/low noise fans. I've tried a few of these and read about them at silentpcreview.com and the $3 nmb fan from bestbyte.com is as good as any. Or is it nexfan.com. Whoever. These low airflow fans do produce temps that are 5c-8c hotter than a strong fan, but with an slk800 on there you'll still be fine even if you overclock some. If you get the nmb or other 20cfm fan, I suggest you get a few of them to so you can replace your psu fan and case fans too.

Reply: (edit)"what temps do you think ill be getting" I've got a 10cfm fan on a 2400+ and the temps are 44C-48C. The barton would be about 3c hotter. And the slk800 is probably 1C better than the sk7 I use. So the nmb or any 20cfm fan will be maybe 45C-48C at full load for you. Also depends where you live. Its 27C in the room here so you may be lower.

Reply: (edit)Yes it goes to a lower cfm and quieter db level than the stealth. Here's a review of quiet fans. http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=63&page=1 http://www.svc.com/thersmarcasf.html
