Hello all,
I told the burn-in wizard in sisoft sandra to run 10 rounds and it finished successfully but my mobo temp go to around 48c and the cpu never went above 38c. I am wondering if it is normal for the mobo to run hotter than the processor. thanks for your help and time.

I have had system temps run hotter than the cpu but only at idle. Under load, the cpu usually surpassed the mobo.

What is your idle temps??

Sandra reads the same setup you made on sensors choice on other monitoring software. In another word, if you have MBM5 running, Sandra reads the sensors you picked in MBM5. You have to make sure the system and board senors are picked correctly first.
If the temps are reversed the system temp of 38 C is still a bit high, unless your room temp is 30 C.

I don't know where your mobo sensor is but if its down by the pci slots, the vid card may be cooking it. Sandra burn-in may be heating up the vid card and thats heating up the mobo sensor.

Or it may be that your northbridge fan isn't working or its got a poorly mounted passive sink. When Sandra tests the memory or hard drive the northbridge heats up.

Try running defrag. If the mobo heats up a lot, the nb cooler is lame.

I don't believe in 38°C on a 2,4 GHz cpu in a burn in (maybe except a Celeron or Duron).
Are you sure you haven't switched the sensors ???

Only as example, on my Asus A7V133 Cpu is also Sensor 2 and Mainboard Sensor 1 with VCool !!!

If they are changed then the temperatures sound okay with only the board a bit hot but still not too hot!

Northbridge doesn't run very hot in P4. That's why only a few boards have active cooling (less than a handful). More active cooling is found on the 800mhz P4. However, I am down playing the potential or possibility of overheating.

Regardless, the cpu temp can't be 38C like free_weasel said.

Sandra also reverses CPU and System Fans in many chipsets. They could be right with other monitoring software, and BIOS, yet in reverse order in Sandra.

I just checked in the Bios and the temps look similar to Sandra. Keep in mind that I use a stock cooler and the stock thermal pad. On the side of my case I have an 80mm fan that keeps things cool. Also I built my sister about the same computer except and ECS L4s8A2 mobo and and Riva TNT2 32mb Geforce 2 card and her temps are about the same as mine.
