They say that you only need about a toothpck amount, so I used a Q tip and applied the grease. I have a 900mhz Duron that runs at 46C. Should I apply more to get the temperature down? Also, is that temperature high enough to cause my system to crash? Because I am always crashing when trying to run a lot of things at once.. or maybe it is the Duron little Cache? Thanks

Your temp is OK so I wouldn’t change the thermal paste.

It’s crashing for some other reason.

Your temp is fine, like Badboy said. Is this an upgrade that you just did or what? If so, what CPU did you have before? If not, was your system running the 900 without problems before? My guess would be memory. Have you made any other changes? Sometimes if you make several changes at once, it's difficult to figure out which change was the one that's causing the problem.

Also, about the thermal paste...it usually takes a few days to "settle in", so your CPU temp may still fall a couple of degrees...not that it's anywhere near being high as it stands right now. I highly doubt that your prob is temp related.

Ok thanks, I applied some extra grease while you two replied, and my temp dropped about 2 degrees. I will try and buy a better Heatsink/fan in the future. I know my temp is ok, but I like to get it cooler since it is so cheap to upgrade the heatsink/fan. Thanks

Did you read the above replies?
Your crashing is *NOT* related to temperature at all. Your temperatures are PERFECTLY FINE !!!

It sounds as though you have memory related problems - like instability because the memory is not running at the proper speed - or it's running too fast/hot - or maybe you just need a bit *MORE* memory if you're running so many applications all at once. It would be nice if people actually READ the written work that others are making available to them.

1. Too much thermal grease is bad!
2. You won't get that chip much cooler.
3. You don't NEED the chip to be cooler.
4. Does this mean that you *DON'T* want to
figure out how to fix your crashes
anymore - since we've all agreed that
temperature has nothing to do with your
crashes?

Memory is really cheap nowadays too. You should be more concerned about that, than a fan or heatsink that you don't need.
