I am building my 1st computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAX mobo with an AMD XP2100 cpu.
I am confused on where to set my bus freq. and clock ratio. Manual for the mobo says the bus can be set to 100/133/166mhz and the clock ratio can be set from 5x to 12.5x in increments of .5x or to AUTO(default).How does this all correspond to my cpu (1.73ghz) ?? help!

Thanks, should I set the bus speed to 166mhz since my cpu is rated for 266mhz or leave it at the default 100mhz as well ?

does this make sense?
cpu clock set to 166mhz
ratio set to 10.5x
=1.743ghz

also the spec for this mobo at their site says 200/266/333 FSB processors so why can I only choose 100/133/166 from the dip switches? Is FSB the cpu bus speed (Front side bus?). on top of all this, i can change settings in the software that comes with the mobo. now i'm really confused. the more i can learn about this would help if anyone has some hints for me. much appreciated.

FSB should be set to 133, NOT 166.

multiplier = 13 FSB = 133

133 x 2 = 266
166 x 2 = 333

Your CPU has the multiplier locked...no matter what you set the multiplier at, it will only be recognized as the locked setting...in your case, 13x.

Your FSB is listed as 266, but that's DDR (double data rate) FSB...your "actual" FSB is 1/2 the DDR FSB...or 133mhz (266/2). Set your FSB to 133...the mutiplier will take care of itself.
