hows does the amd sempron 64 3000+ compare to the amd athlox xp 2100+? I will be doing alot of music production programs like fl studio.
There are no Sempron64's made for the socket A platform, so upgrading from an Athlon XP2100+ will mean a new motherboard & possibly new RAM.
The S64 is based on newer technology, has the memory controller built into the CPU, & can take advantage of newer/better/faster motherboard chipsets. The bad thing about the 3000+ S64 is it only has 128k L2 cache. I assume you're asking about a socket 754 S64 rather than the AM2? If you don't already have the 3000+, you'd be better off getting a different model that has 256k L2 cache, or better yet, get the Athlon64 3000+ with 512k L2 at Outpost.com for $59. Look for a motherboard based on the nForce3 250 or nForce3 250Gb chipset. If you wanna get into PCI-Express video cards, get a board based on the nForce4.
The bottomline is if you get the "right" S64 & pair it up with the right motherboard, it will beat the fastest AthlonXP system.
im talking bout the socket A palonmino core athlon xp 2100+ against the 754 socket sempron 64 3000+. i dunt have either right now, i am thinkin of upgrading to either one of them.
That would mean that you don't have a motherboard either, correct? Why settle on older technology when you can jump diecrtly into a a socket 939 Athlon64 system? Have you looked at the prices of new CPUs? The Athlon64 3000+ Venice (with heatsink/fan) is just $66!
