I have read that my CPU (Sempron 3000+) is one of the best for overclocking with good and stable results, my motherboard being a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M. I have plenty of DDR Ram, and with an additional case fan cooling shouldn't be a problem. Trouble is I haven't a clue where to start ... has anybody got the time to advise accordingly.

I don't know where you're getting your info from, but that particular Sempron is not a good one. You *may* be able to overclock it, but it's main drawback to good performance is the fact that it only has 128k L2 cache...& there's nothing you can do about that.
Your board is a budget model based on a VIA chipset & they generally don't offer the necessary BIOS options to overclock. Basically, what you have is a low end/general purpose machine. It certainly won't hurt to experiment with it though.
