Hi, I am new to laptops and just looking for a budget light laptop to use during overseas studies.

The choice is between a Compaq Presario V2405ca with 1.8GHz Mobile AMD Sempron™ processor 3000+ with AMD PowerNow!™ Technology (Up to 1600MHz system bus; 128KB L2 cache)
512MB 333MHz DDR RAM

and Toshiba Satellite M50-MX2 with 1.5GHz Intel® Celeron M Processor 370 (400MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 1MB)
512MB PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM, expandable to 2GB.

I see the big difference in cache but I'm not sure how important it is. Any suggestions which one is better... It will be used for interent, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and image editing. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

Celeron M 370. DDR-2 memory and the cache size. 1mb l2 cache has a big advantage over 128kb l2 cache.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 6800GT
SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

I'm also going to say Celeron M. It's basically a Pentium M with reduced cache, and the Pentium M rocks.

first of all the cache isnt that important when you look at the other factors. 1 the amd has a greater fsb and core speed, 2 the intel will use more power, 3 the amd athlon 3000+ is = to a 3.0GHz p4. so i would highly recomend the amd model

Yep i would also recommend the AMD as well.3000 indeed stand as the equivalentof apentium 4 3.0 gig. That's how they quote them at AMD.Itwould be obviously be faster than a celeron 1,5 eh ;-)
