OS: Win98 / WinXP
CPU/Ram: AMD 2000+ / 256MB
Comment:

Both these CPUs run at 1.67 GHz, but the Sempron runs at a higher FSB - 166MHz core.
Doesn't that make it a better processor due to the up in ram speed?
Am running a friend's sempron2400 in place of my 2000XP and wondering which will be a better CPU. I think its the Sempron..right?

It's really the exact same CPU that has been "reprogrammed" with different default clock settings. But since the Sempron's FSB is 333 (166mhz), it should perform better even though the clock speed is the same. It should be a better overclocker too because the lower multiplier will allow the FSB to be cranked up even more.

Hello jam,
Thanks for your reply.

btw, do u remember I'd asked you abt the location of the FSB setting jumper on the A7N8X board? Well after much probing I discovered that the FSB setting is done through a set of switches rather than a jumper. The location of the switches next to the CPU slot and the PSU makes it a lil difficult to access it but all the same I somehow managed to set it to 133MHz for the 2000+ core from the mobo default of 100.
Just thought I'd let you know.

btw while we are at it, can the sempron handle 200MHz? That must take it to 200M X 10 = 2.0GHz. Thats a 20% increase in CPU speed. If the side covers of the cabinet is taken off can I pull it off? My mobo cant go beyond 154MHz, will try it on my friend's mobo and asking so I will know what am in for.
