Subject: Safe Limit
OS: Windows 2000
CPU/Ram: Pentium 3 318MB
Model/Manufacturer: ASUS CUSL-2
Comment:
I'm wondering what the safe limit is for a Intel Pentium 3 1GHZ. I got:
318MB of Ram
20GB HDD
ASUS CUSL-2 motherboard
Running Windows 2000
Socket 370

Ive already overclocked it to 1100MHZ but i don't want to kill it. Whats a safe limit?

Just make sure to limit the PCI bus to no higher than 38MHz.

1.13GHz is the safe limit for a P3-1000. You'll be running the FSB at 150MHz, AGP at 75MHz, and PCI at 37.5MHz.

You may need to increase the CPU voltage to hit this speed without running into problems, since 1.0-1.13GHz is pretty much the limit for the Coppermine core. Intel did make a 1.13GHz Coppermine, but immediately pulled it from store shelves. It was not a stable processor.

The lean, mean, movie playing P3 machine
P3-S 1400 @ 1.66GHz, 158MHz FSB

Now storing 114 HD movies
